Description

The Sustainable California Libraries project, a partnership between the Pacific Library Partnership (PLP) and the California State Library, strengthens resource-sharing and access to information, services, and opportunity with an emphasis on local community strengths and challenges throughout the California library community. This project builds on the prior work of the Sustainable California Libraries LSTA funded project, as well as participation with the national Sustainable Libraries Initiative. Key deliverables of this project include creating and training a cohort of 30 library staff from 15 library jurisdictions. Activities include recruitment and development of the cohort, an orientation at CLA pre-conference, regularly scheduled cohort meetings, and a summit. Through this, the project will train staff to develop and implement local programs and services that promote resiliency and sustainability.  State and local community partnerships will help communities and library staff learn and adopt sustainable practices. 

The Project Manager will work with the California State Library (CSL) and the Pacific Library Partnership (PLP) staff in the planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of the activities of the Sustainable California Libraries project. The Project Manager will perform evaluations of participants through LSTA surveying, and work with the California State Library staff and Pacific Library Partnership to ensure successful fiscal oversight, and that all fiscal and narrative reports are submitted on time and accurately.

The major activities, with the California State Library staff, include project design and planning, coordination of a pre-conference session at the California Library Association conference, cohort recruitment and selection, coordination and facilitation of communities of practice, managing supplies and speaker fees for programs and services, coordination of sustainability summit, and data collection and reporting. Requirements

 The candidate may have experience with library programs and services, knowledge of sustainability programming, co-design, community engagement, and evaluation

This position requires effective communication skills. The successful candidate will effectively convey information clearly, both orally and in writing, and demonstrate effective use of listening skills and display openness to other people’s ideas and thoughts.  

The person will be a self-starter with high organizational and time management skills.  The successful candidate meets deadlines and can handle multiple projects at the same time, with exceptional time management skills.  

The successful candidate will possess a collaborative work style by developing networks and relationships with the other members of the team and stakeholders (such as library staff and the California State Library), being open to ideas, and maintaining a professional manner in communications and work. 

 The successful candidate will be familiar with Zoom, Teams, Microsoft Office 365, Google documents and survey software. The candidate will have some experience in analyzing and manipulating data, creating charts and presentations.   

 The candidate will have experience with project management, with preferred experienced in facilitation and coordination, including scheduling of events. 

The preferred candidate will have experience in grant management, including budgeting and tracking expenditures, surveying, and reporting.
