Position Overview
The Northern California Youth Chorus (NCYC) invites a visionary and inspiring Artistic Director to lead this acclaimed organization into its third decade of musical excellence. This is a rare opportunity to shape the artistic future of a beloved regional chorus while nurturing the next generation of musicians, performers, and lifelong lovers of choral music.
The Artistic Director guides the organization’s creative vision, directs one or more choirs, and oversees both programmatic and administrative staff. Blending artistic excellence with strategic leadership, this role offers an exceptional platform for an experienced music professional to enrich the lives of children and youth throughout the
Greater Sacramento Region. This is a hybrid position that reports directly to the NCYC Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Artistic
Oversee and coordinate selection of repertoire for concerts that are interesting, engaging, and educational for the performers and the audience.
Seek performance opportunities with community organizations such as local orchestras, other choral groups, local senior homes, and visiting artists.
Create, plan, and implement new programs that will assist in the growth of NCYC singers’ skills in music theory, vocal technique, and choral singing.
Seek festival and touring opportunities for performance level choirs annually.
Oversee the musical development of each singer with a music theory program.
Conduct and teach a minimum of one of the performing groups.
Personnel
Hire and supervise all administrative employees, pianists, rehearsal assistants, choir conductors, and concert instrumentalists.
Business and Administrative
Collaborate with the NCYC Board of Directors to maintain a strong business foundation and fulfi ll the NCYC mission and vision.
Prepare budgets and reports with the NCYC Administrative Director for Board review and approval
Attend monthly NCYC Board meetings and present reports on the artistic activities of NCYC.
Oversee the operations of each performing group.
Outreach and Fundraising
In conjunction with the NCYC Board of Directors, develop an annual funding plan to further the mission of NCYC through donations, grants, and sponsorships. Promote NCYC at community events.
Create and implement an outreach plan–publicizing upcoming auditions, concerts, and other special events.
Oversee all NCYC social media.
Institutional Responsibilities

Represent NCYC professionally and take care to use NCYC resources responsibly.
Requirements
Desirable Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in music, music education, or related fi eld preferred.
Significant experience teaching children’s choirs (~ 10 years).
Ability to teach and inspire children to sing and perform at top levels. Knowledge of child development and best practices in music education. Ability to manage multiple tasks, track priorities, and follow through reliably without close supervision.
Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly with the internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team; fl exible and willing to pitch in wherever needed.
Punctual and reliable.
