- Trial Attorney
Description
Our Phoenix office is growing, and we're looking for a Litigation Attorney who wants to try cases, not just settle them — someone who will represent injured people and their families in personal injury and medical malpractice matters with the same tenacity that's defined our firm for five decades.
THE FIGHT YOU'LL BE FIGHTING
- Represent plaintiffs in personal injury matters — auto, truck, motorcycle, and pedestrian collisions, catastrophic and brain injuries, premises liability, product liability, and wrongful death.
- Represent plaintiffs in medical malpractice matters — surgical and anesthesia errors, birth injuries, emergency room negligence, misdiagnosis, and medication errors.
- Develop cases from intake through resolution: investigate the facts, build the record, work with medical and liability experts, and prepare every file as if it's going to trial — because at Burg Simpson, it might.
- Take and defend depositions, argue motions, and appear in Arizona state and federal courts.
- Negotiate aggressively with insurance carriers and defense counsel, knowing exactly when to hold the line and when to settle on our clients' terms.
- Communicate directly with clients at every stage — because at Burg Simpson, keeping people informed isn't an afterthought, it's the culture.
- Partner with our paralegals and nationwide network of shareholders and trial lawyers across our Colorado, Florida, Ohio, and Wyoming offices.
BUILT FOR TRIAL LAWYERS, NOT JUST CASE MANAGERS
We believe great trial lawyers are made, not born overnight — and we invest accordingly. This role comes with a real commitment to your development as a courtroom attorney:
- Second- and first-chair opportunities alongside veteran shareholders with decades of verdicts behind them.
- Hands-on mentorship from a trial team that has secured results ranging from multi-million-dollar wrongful death verdicts to landmark product defect and gas explosion cases.
- Support to develop your own trial skills — voir dire, opening and closing, direct and cross-examination, expert handling — rather than a career spent managing files toward settlement.
- Access to the resources of a national litigation platform: an established referral and co-counsel network, and the institutional firepower to go toe-to-toe with any defense team or insurance carrier.
- A clear runway — many of our shareholders built their careers at Burg Simpson from associate to trial partner.
Requirements
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
- Active license (in good standing) to practice law in Arizona (or eligibility for prompt admission).
- Litigation experience in personal injury and/or medical malpractice; plaintiff-side experience strongly preferred.
- Genuine appetite for courtroom work — deposition and motion practice experience, with a desire to first-chair trials.
- Strong writing, negotiation, and case-strategy instincts.
- A client-first mindset — the same empathy and directness our clients describe when they talk about our team.
- The grit to go up against large corporations and insurance companies without blinking.
WHY BURG SIMPSON?
- A firm with 50 years of results and a $2 billion+ track record backing your work.
- Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
- Full benefits: medical, dental, and vision insurance; short- and long-term disability; term life and AD&D; medical and dependent care FSA/HSA options; 401(k) with annual firm contribution; and paid vacation, sick, personal, and maternity leave.
- A firm culture rooted in community — our attorneys are active in pro bono work, nonprofit boards, and civic institutions across every market we serve.
- A seat at a national table: local clout in Phoenix, backed by the strength of a firm with offices across the country.
